January 31, 2007 Media Contact: (703) 697-5131/697-5132 Public/Industry(703) 428-0711 DoD Identifies Army Casualties The Department of Defense announced today the death of three soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.They died Jan 27 in Taji, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during convoy operations.They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Killed were: Cpl. Timothy A. Swanson, 21, of San Antonio, Texas. Pfc. Jon B. St. John II, 25, of Neenah, Wis. Pfc. David T. Toomalatai, 19, of Long Beach, Calif. --Spencer Ackerman
