Your future's in an oblong box, don't cry for me oh baby:
Pinochet has finally died. A vile man, ushered into power by the United States, a murderer, a torturer, a face of evil. Lament the fact that the bastard died in a hospital bed, and not a prison hospital, either. May Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Gonzales et. al. not meet the same unjust fate.
--Spencer Ackerman
Fun Fact: José Piñera, an economist at the Libertarian Cato Institute and a major supporter of Bush's Social Security scheme, was a minister in Pinochet's cabinet.

This libertarian loved liberty so much he only waited until 1981 before resigning from the dictator's government. During his tenure as a Pinochetista he designed Chile's pension system, which is so crappy every Chilean presidential candidate Right and Left (including José's own brother) pledged to restructure it in the 2005 elections.

Pinochet himself designed a much better pension plan for...August Pinochet. It involved stashing millions of embezzled dollars in foreign banks.
