DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Eric G. Palacios Rivera, 21, of Atlantic City, N.J., died Nov. 14 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, of injuries suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during combat operations. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Mr. Ackerman, I liked your piece in the American Prospect about Rumsfeld as fall-guy for the Iraq war. It's really remarkable how the "incompetence thing" got all the hawks off the hook. The pro-war pundits created the discursive environment that made this war possible, they are as morally responsible for this mess as anyone in the Pentagon.

I believe the "Bush is dumb" line peddled by some of the administration's liberal critics made this possible by providing a perfect avenue for the hawks to absolve themselves.
